9/1/2019 Woking Blackhawks 36 Aztec Storm 72
Match Summary
Scores by quarter: 10-13, 10-25, 9-16, 7-18
To beat Woking 72-36 would be a good result at any time, but adding in a 5 week gap since our last game and the need to nurse players back from illness and injury I think the whole team should feel proud of their efforts. We had our dips, noticeably at the end of the first quarter when we got a little bit careless, but we also had our highs, a purple patch at the end of the 2nd quarter where we scored 11 points unanswered and completely took the game away from them.
Overall, I thought the defending was excellent. Jenny and Reanna both did a great job on Annabel, and everyone else played intelligent defence with a lot of good decisions about when to help. It’s a shame we don’t have stats because I think we dominated our defensive boards with the guards doing a good job to pick up Woking’s runners and box them out and win rebounds.
Offensively we consistently found ways to get the ball inside and create easier looks and so the scoring was dominated by the inside players – but that sill reflects good team play. Hopefully we will all be a little bit fitter and sharper next week and can do the same again.
Scorers were, Becky 25, Jenny 15, Reanna 12, Amanda 6, Jade 6, Nynke 4, Auriol 4
