Match summary:
The Falcons almost got to 50 points in this game and played some excellent basketball at times, moving the ball quickly, attacking the basket and making some fine mid-range jumpers. The Mohegans were on fire from downtown however, hitting seven triples, and their quick-break offence matched the excellent Chiltern effort of last week, with at least half the visitors’ points coming from fast breaks.
Key stats:
The Falcons came back in the third period after a switch to man-to-man defence, and better control of the ball resulted in a 13-13 spell, but the visitors dominated the second quarter by 16 points. Foul shooting (4 of 12 at 33%) was unfortunately down – which is very disappointing as this has been a big focus in training and the success rate on the practice court has been terrific.
Coach Walker’s assessment:
The team’s performance in games is better than results would suggest. Set plays are slowly being mastered, resulting in some excellent scoring opportunities and even some excellent baskets. The quick break after conceding foul shots led to a superb basket and Iain Rogers was the beneficiary of some fine Falcons team play which ended with the skipper scoring when wide open inside. The players should not get down-hearted as progress is being made. With more consistency, better ball control and regular execution of planned moves the team will start to record those elusive wins.
