Aztecs Falcons 47-45 Yateley Silverbacks 3 (10-12, 29-27, 42-37)
Wessex Men’s Division 3 League Game
Match Summary
In a ding-dong battle that saw both teams lead by as many as 8 (Yateley) and 11 (Falcons), Falcons finally chalked up their first W for the season, avenging the narrow defeat in the Plate a few weeks earlier.
Liam Payne, another former Easthampstead Park School player, looked strong on debut with 16 points, a number of rebounds and seven visits to the foul line, but it was a fine team performance with ten of the 12 players finding the bottom of the net and everyone committed to playing strong defence.
Falconsare improving game on game under Coach John’s guidance, and are expecting to turn narrow away defeats into home wins in the second half of the season. Depth of the bench is key – 12 players suited up for this game, and 10 got on the scoresheet.

Coach John’s Assessment
Defence wins games and turn-overs cost victories. We turned the ball over far fewer times in this game that we have so far this season, we looked after the ball better, were more patient on offence and we missed fewer inside shots. There is still a long way to go, and many more games left in the season, but this was our first victory and the team thoroughly deserved it as they have worked hard in training and in matches to do the things I have asked of them.
Key Stat
Having lost games by 6, 6, 2, and 1, winning a tight one down the stretch should give us a confidence boost
